Can we create rural settlements with the ambition of simultaneously  contribute to the level of biodiversity in the area?

Turning agricultural production areas into settlements, as in the case of Fællesmark, requires a focus on the quality of rural space: high quality of housing and community facilities combined with a high quality of nature. The client's brief was simple: transform a monoculture production field into high quality housing in interplay with high quality nature.

Fællesmark is a new residential area by Udby, Tuse Næs, which is planned as one single open system, where biodiversity, coherence with the local area, sharing of resources, and sharing of knowledge are considered in all parts of the project.

In a unique collaboration between architects, biologists and cultural planners, Fællesmark is currently being developed as an example project on rural housing development.
